About Mark

Korean-American cellist Mark Yee is a performer, teacher and coach whose work connects elite classical training with practical, deeply human mentorship. A Kingwood native and 2006 graduate of Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, Mark studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Desmond Hoebig before earning his B.M. at Manhattan School of Music under Clive Greensmith and attending Columbia University. He earned his M.M. and Performer's Certificate from Eastman School of Music on a full-tuition scholarship, serving as teaching assistant to Steven Doane and Rosemary Elliott.

His performance path includes Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, world premieres at Lincoln Center, a concerto competition win at CIM, and orchestral work with Houston Grand Opera, Houston Ballet, San Antonio Philharmonic and Mercury Chamber Orchestra. He was a 2015 Naumburg International Cello Competition semifinalist and has worked in chamber music with artists from leading ensembles.

In Houston, Mark maintains a private studio and works with students and programs across Fort Bend, Lamar Consolidated, Katy, Houston, Spring Branch, Klein and Humble ISDs. His work spans adjudication, All-State preparation, clinics, masterclasses, recording and performance. He also leads worship at Second Baptist Church's Woodway campus. Away from the cello, he is a husband, father of two daughters, cyclist, Texas outdoorsman and devoted Korean barbecue cook—with one pug keeping watch.
